Sunflowers, Rain

C G C
The dry earth is thirsty and gold
Am F G
This land is made to yearn
C G F Am
I turn up my face to you
Am G C
I pray for your safe return

Chorus:
F G C
The night is so still without you
Am F G
Save the wind and a far off train
F C
What can I do, I think only of you
G C
When sunflowers bloom in the rain

The dust kicks up from your shoes
Raindrops fall thick and heavy
The flowers sing out in bloom
As the dark sky opens and empties

Chorus

Sunflowers bloom in the storm
To show their love for the sun
They hold her light in their hands
Kept safe till the new day dawns

Chorus x2 last line

The clouds heavy with rain dance dark over the sky
That broad sky, bleached and wind-smoothed
Swath of blue
Blooming fields turn their faces
To the vanishing sun
I smell the fragrant grass
As it dances beneath the warm drops
The earth sings, and the flowers hold
The promise of the returning light
Close to their beating hearts.

Song Notes

This is the most tender song we have ever written. We miss the land of our childhood, the land of the many tomato factories and the sunflowers and the dust, and the dome of blue. I turn my face to you, oh most holy memory and hope that that joy will return again. The prompt for this one was given by someone we still had a crush on but we wrote it for her and her boyfriend to listen to at the time. Anyways we are gay and FANTASTIC at doing social stuff.
